M1 Helmet Liner Painted Black

A Vietnam Era M1 helmet liner that has been painted black for unknown reasons. The shell is very solid with some wear around the rim. The paint is marked and chipped in places on the liner. The webbing is solid but worn. The rivets are intact but some of the metal hardware has minor rust.
