Early WWII Japanese Army Officers "Bullet Proof" Vest. Khaki, canvas twill vest. Button up front, with two long tie straps for tightening around the body. There are numerous brass squares, about one by one and a half inches, hand sewn all over the front of the vest. Have been told these were worn by officers, under their field / service jacket. Their belief was it would help deflect bulletts. These were used early on in the China campaign. I guess they quit wearing them once the US brought in better rifles for the Chinese troops. Looks unworn.
